Maybe you could use a very light grey to backstitch the wings?

Is there any other backstitching in the piece? If so, I second Christine's suggestion of using a light grey for backstitching. If not, then you may want to rethink. I have done something similar on a piece for similar reasons, though, and it worked out fine. Definitely don't rip out all of the work you did, though!

I agree ... backstitch. I am doing the same thing on a blue that matches so I went with a slightly darker blue backstitch.

Could you blend in something that has a little sparkle, like blending filament?

What color is the fabric, and what shade of white are you using? If you're using regular "white", you might want to try a bit with B5200. It's brighter and shows up better.

If it's an overdyed thread, or your already using B5200, I'd probably try backstitching. The thought of adding BF also crossed my mind, but I don't know if that would give any more contrast than white.
